{May 17, 2011}   Considering Cloth…. again

Well, here I am, with baby number 2 on the way. I am swearing up and down that I WILL be sucessful in cloth diapering this time.

Everytime I look at the numbers and cost of using disposables I feel a little ill, but the out of pocket cost of Cloth seems so steep to start. It’s the true reason we never did it with our first. My husband kept putting off investing in them and I let him, so that when she was born we went straight to disposables, and although I bought 3 covers a set of prefolds, we were never able to keep it up due to not having enough to rotate through.

This time, things will be different. I have 2 months left to prepare. I am saving, reading reviews and stalking diaper forums where I can buy EUC  (excellent used condition) diapers. I have also found Jillians Drawers has this great return policy which I think will go along way in convincing the Hubs to give it a second try.

Do any of you cloth diaper? What are your favorite brands and sites to get advice?

We have used cloth on Paisley and we love it! The types of things we use are described in this post: http://lackeyantics.blogspot.com/2010/10/our-experience-with-cloth-diapers.html

I highly recommend cloth for a variety of reasons. Paisley hardly has bad diaper rash when she wears cloth. It saves a ton of money. I like the covers better than a disposable. And I would like to think that organic cotton against the skin is way more comfortable. Before my mom started keeping Paisley, we had her in day care and her cloth diapers were so easy that even the day care teachers used them for her.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I HIGHLY recommend that you check out Babies, Bottoms and More (http://www.babiesbottomsandmore.com/). You can visit her store in Farmers Branch and can answer any questions you have. They also have a buyback program and she sells used diapers.

Good luck!

Thanks for reading and responding! I am determined to do it this time, just a little overwhelmed with the selection. Farmers Branch is pretty close to me so I will have to check it out! It’s also great your childcare is going along with you.

I am considering using sweet pea covers or bum genius 4.0 because I like the idea of an AIO. Do you use fitteds, AIO or a combo?

we use gro via AI2s (i don’t think babies, bottoms, and more sells those anymore, though). we liked the concept of being able to buy less shells than liners and saving room in our diaper bag by doing so. we can dry our liners quickly in the dryer and hang dry our shells to keep them from getting too worn. it’s just personal preference, though, so i don’t think one is necessarily better than the other. i’ve heard good things about all of the major brands. for us, the AI2s just fit and made sense.

it is totally overwhelming, so that’s why i love going to the store in person to look and feel and all. you can bring all of yoru questions and get great answers. i have a new customer coupon for babies, bottoms, and more if you can message me your address (i’ll drop it in the mail – i think it’s good for $5 off or something).
